Enterprise Advisers

Jimmy White

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“I would like to contribute something positive to younger people in my community who are just starting their career as I am looking toward the end of mine, to give some of my knowledge and experience to a scheme that will help others.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“When I left school, I went straight into an apprenticeship as pipefitter / welder which gave me a foundation to build on, I worked on construction sites around the UK, I then saw an opening for a trainee estimator and that started me on the path to where I am now.

I have worked in many different industries and locations as well as seeing some great things, I have been fortunate to work with and meet people who I would not normally meet in my life and that is a great bonus with my job.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Always go with your instinct, if it feels right then it is, don’t force things to happen, look for a job that you know you will enjoy doing”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“The people, the stunning scenery, and the quietness, why would you want to live / work anywhere else, I grew up in cities and lived in them, nothing compares to the Lake District.

When I exit the M6 at junction 40 and get on the A66 I can’t believe how lucky I am to live in Cumbria.”
