Enterprise Advisers

Abigail Ridley

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“I would like to support local schools to contribute to the development on young people and to make a positive difference to their lives.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“When I left school I went to Newton Rigg College to study Health & Social Care but realised this wasn’t for me. I then came across a role with Waitings that suited my skills set and I was keen to work for a local company. Being from farming background, I like the hands-on type work they do at Waitings, the staff are all work driven and it is a busy environments which suits me. Currently I work as Admin/Plant Hire, raising invoices and keeping track of where plant is and managing clients accounts. I am also responsible for the Waitings social media accounts.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Get as much work experience as you possibly can from a variety of different businesses, this will then help to make the right career choices.”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“What I like best about living and working in Cumbria is that I don’t have far to commute, I don’t need to use public transport to get to where I need to be. On my lunch break I can go for a walk and not be worried about heavy traffic and a lot of people around me.”
