Schools and colleges play a vital role in teaching young people about their future career options and opportunities. Cumbria Careers Hub can support your school or college to deliver high quality, meaningful careers education for each of your students based on the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Working with school leaders, Governors and Careers Leaders, we will support you to develop modern careers education programmes that inspire and inform your students as they begin to think about their future world of work.
Statutory guidance requires the Senior Leadership Team, Headteacher and the Governing Body to give “explicit backing” to the Careers Leader to ensure there is strong strategic leadership to develop a progressive and impactful careers programme. The Careers Leader will lead the careers programme underpinned by the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Good career guidance is important for social mobility because it helps open pupils’ eyes to careers they may not have considered.
Key Roles in Careers Education
Careers Leader
Every school or college should appoint a named person to the role of Careers Leader to lead the careers programme and the strategic careers plan.
Careers Link Governor
It is recommended that every school should appoint a link governor for careers. This is a strategic role to promote employer engagement and take an active interest in Careers Information Advice and Guidance (CIAG).
Enterprise Adviser
Enterprise Advisers are passionate, experienced professionals who are committed to preparing young people in their local area to make informed choices about their future.
