Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“I have enjoyed supporting the school with their careers programme, including developing career breakfast sessions for students, introducing new business contacts to the school and taking part in activities, such as mock interview sessions and careers fairs on behalf of PPM.

“As a member of Carlisle Ambassadors and mentor with the Carlisle Young Ambassador group, the links created with other businesses and organisations in the county are extremely beneficial to the Enterprise Advisor role.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“After leaving University with a degree in Geography, I went travelling around the world which was an amazing experience. When I returned, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and started a summer job at Carlisle Racecourse. I helped with race days and other events held there, such as conferences and weddings. I realised I loved event organisation and hospitality and stayed for 5 years. I then took on a role as Events Manager at Richard Rose Academies to develop my experience. Another opportunity then came up to join PPM through a connection with the MD that I made when he was a customer at the Racecourse. I started planning and implementing the social value activities for PPM as well as communications and development within the business. I’ve now been in this role for 8 years.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Take every opportunity to learn about all the possible career opportunities and find something you are passionate about.”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“I love having the Lake District on our doorstep, we are so incredibly fortunate to have this area of outstanding natural beauty to explore and enjoy. I spend a lot of time in the Lakes either walking, cycling or on the water.

“Through my role at PPM I am also lucky enough to travel regularly throughout the county to our depots in the South Lakes, West Cumbria and Eden and get to work with a wealth of wonderful communities, charities, organisations and businesses too.”
