Enterprise Advisors

Claire Campbell

Why did you become an Enterprise Advisor?

“I previously worked as a Secondary Science teacher in Cumbria and Lancashire and therefore understand some of the challenges that schools face.

I feel that being an Enterprise advisor gives me the opportunity to encourage interest in STEM subjects, help to embed careers into the curriculum and support young people in Cumbria to be better prepared for the world of work.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“I always wanted to work in education and had a keen interest in the STEM subjects. After my GCSE’s I went to Blackpool Sixth Form to study A levels and then to Newcastle University to study Biology.

I then decided to take a gap year before going to University of Cumbria to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Science. During this gap year I worked in a voluntary role at Lancashire Wildlife Trust as an Education Officer delivering STEM outreach in schools across Lancashire.

After my PGCE I moved to Cumbria where I taught Science locally for 6 years before moving to a school in Essex for 2 years and then to a school in Lancashire for 6 years which finally led to my current role at BAE Systems.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Take every opportunity that you get.”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“I love having the Lake District on my doorstep.”
