Enterprise Advisers

Gemma Harrison

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“To bridge the gap between education and the business communities. I would like to contribute to the development of young people and to make a positive difference to their future. I would also like to help to support the skills gap within my current industry by raising the awareness of the many different types of opportunities and careers that exist.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“My role as a Community Investment Coordinator is to work on initiatives that improve the social, economic and environmental aspects of our local communities. As part of the Nuclear social impact team, I work on projects that bring about long-term lasting social impact that makes a long term difference to others. The work is very rewarding and varied. Prior to this I have always worked in customer facing roles, more recently running the Pandora store in Workington. Dealing with all types of people is what I enjoy and making a difference to the quality of the lives of others is what I strive for.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“I would say to my younger self to make sure that you look for a career doing something which you are passionate about. Find something you love and give it your all and you won’t go wrong. Don’t be afraid to try new things if you are not sure what you want to do and be brave!”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“I think we are extremely lucky to live in close proximity to such gorgeous countryside and it is important that we continue to grow our local area and protect the areas in which we live for future generations.”
