Jen Hewitt
Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?
“Because I want to represent the Veterinary Industry at a school levelto support students in their understanding of the variety of roles that are out there which are not just clinical but also support as well.”
Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role
“I did an Apprenticeship at 18 for an NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Business Administration via an employer placement and day release to Carlisle College/ JHP Training. Went on to do NVQ Level 4 in Business Admin via Distance Learning and took on more responsibility and challenging roles – Office Management, Senior PA to Chief Executive then onto Business Operations Lead at Paragon Vets.”
What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
“Think outside the box, what are your interests/ passions? Don’t always follow a route because you think you have to. Ask questions, go to businesses and ask for opportunity for a tour or chat with staff, chance of work experience, put in the effort to do your homework about what you want your career to be.”
What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?
“Cumbria is a wonderful place to live, we are very lucky to be surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wealth of opportunities. Cumbria isn’t just about Tourism and Nuclear Energy there is lots more out there from an employment opportunity which will allow you to build a fantastic career and future.”
