Enterprise Advisors

Martin Norris

Why did you become an Enterprise Advisor?

“It’s important to me that young people have a full and diverse understanding of routes into employment. We’re lucky to have a fantastic business community here in Cumbria, and I hope to be able to inspire young people by showcasing the opportunities available to them within our region.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“I completed my A-Levels at Trinity School in Carlisle before going on to study English at University. I joined CN Group in 2013 as part of their Recruitment division, progressing through the business across the next 7 years managing a number of key verticals.

I’ve always been passionate about helping people connect with new opportunities and realise their ambitions, leading me into the apprenticeship team at Carlisle College before my current role as Head of Recruitment at Realise HR.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Put in the work and enjoy the journey. Young people often feel they must follow a set career path and have it ‘all worked out’. It’s ok to change your mind, change direction, industries, and careers. I truly believe that if you work hard and put positivity into the world, you’ll find your way!”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“Cumbria is my home, and I love the richness of our heritage as well as the amount of opportunity available in our region. I wouldn’t be anywhere else!”
