Enterprise Advisers

Matt Williams

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“I work closely with Kendal College in my day job and they are a strategic partner in helping to deliver the Council’s priorities. I am passionate about career development and opportunities for young people to encourage them to stay locally.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“After finishing university at Lancaster I wanted to return back to Cumbria and make a difference to the place I live and grew up in. That is why I chose to work for the local council and working in Economic Development there is a lot of opportunity to make a real difference to people’s quality of life.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Make the time to talk to others and look into employers and career opportunities closer to home. It is easy to overlook what is on your doorstep and be drawn into the University and big city experience.”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“Definitely the scenery and general quality of life. I enjoy walking and running with the dog and being so close to friends and family.”
