Enterprise Advisers

Roger Wilson

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“I wanted to make a stronger contribution to my local community. I wanted to play my part in improving careers education within schools, thus enhancing the choices available to young people.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“I have over 35 years’ work experience – predominantly in HR & OD and predominantly with the NHS. I have worked in a range of roles and organisations. I have over 15 years Board Level experience. I have been running my own consultancy since 2017 and work with both public and private sector colleagues on their people management challenges. As part of my current portfolio, I am an EA with Queen Elizabeth School/Studio in Kirkby Lonsdale.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

“Just do something that makes you happy and fulfils you – make sure that your values fit with the values of your employer. Always be true to yourself and know your worth!”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“We have lived in Cumbria for over 14 years now and regard it as home. There is a great blend of people, environment, connectivity (Glasgow/London/Edinburgh) and sense of community. Being involved in the EA programme for the last 4 years has been one of the most rewarding things I have done.”
