Enterprise Advisers

Sarah Graham

Why did you become an Enterprise Adviser?

“It is a great way to bridge the gap between employers and schools, I can understand the challenges facing schools and support them to see a different perspective and influence their career programmes in a positive way to benefit the students.”

Tell us about your chosen career or career pathway to your current role

“I studied Biomedical Sciences at University but after a period travelling in Asia and Australia I ended up going back to my student job and then doing the internal management development programme at Asda. I worked there for 15 years doing roles in stores and at the head office in Leeds where I was involved in the central operations team doing change projects and working in a remote role. I joined Westmorland Family in 2015 as a People Advisor and I am now a People Business Partner meaning I work closely with the operational teams to deliver their goals through their people. I get involved with recruitment, absence management, disciplinaries and grievances, colleague wellbeing and reward and recognition as well as working on some group wide projects.”

What careers advice would you give to your 16 year-old self?

“Explore your options and find something that you love but don’t feel you need to pigeon hole yourself into a certain career. Opportunities will become available that you hadn’t even considered.”

What do you like/love best about living and working in Cumbria?

“I was born and raised in Cumbria and love all the variety it offers. I am able to have a challenging and rewarding career and raise my son in a gorgeous part of the world.”
